How to Remove Scratches from Eyeglass Safely
posted by: Gretchen
Your eyeglasses are an investment that you want to keep for years. You go for the expensive brand with the thought that your eyeglasses will last for years. Most people think that scratch-resistant eyeglasses will never have dents but with improper care, all lenses will scratch. So when you find that your new pair of eyeglasses has scratches, it makes you feel frustrated and you just want to do anything to get rid of those scratches from the lenses. What have you done to remove the scratches? Did they work? Pay attention to the following list of things that you can do to polish dents from the lenses of your eyeglasses safely.
- One popular remedy for plastic lens scratches is a glass-etching product which is called Armor Etch. It removes the anti-glare and anti-scratch coatings on plastic lenses, leaving the original plastic lens intact. However, this is not recommended for glass lenses.
- Another product used to repair scratch is called Lens Dr. It is temporary scratch filler that lessens the visibility of the scratches on the lenses, but leaves a glossy film on the lenses. Visit the nearest eyewear store and check this product.
- For inexpensive home remedy, you can use a small amount of toothpaste. Put it on a soft cotton cloth. Rub it onto the lens in circular motion. Keep on wiping for 10 seconds and wash it off with cold water.
- A mixture of two parts baking soda and one part water also works. Use a cotton cloth to wipe the paste to the lenses in circular motion. Rinse it off and dry with another cotton cloth.
- You can also use baby oil. Simply drop a small amount of baby oil onto the lenses and wipe with a cotton cloth.
These remedies work best for light scratches and dents of your eyewear. If nothing works for your eyeglass lenses, visit an optical professional to have them repaired. If you really can’t save your lenses, save your frames. Before buying a new pair of sunglasses or eyeglasses, check them to detect chips, scuffs, and flaws.
