Growth and development is at its peak during the childhood and puberty years. This is the reason why everyone should get the essential nutrients to be healthy and to reach the maximum growth potential. However, every parent should realize that there are factors that affect the growth of a child. These factors include environment and genetics. There’s nothing we can do with genetics but there are some steps that we can take to help them reach their full height.
What are the Things Needed by Children to Grow Taller ?
Let us talk about the important things that kids need to increase height. They are the following:
- Healthy Diet. Give your child food items that are rich in protein and calcium. Milk is the best source of calcium that’s why your infant needs it the most, particularly breastfeeding.
- Exercise: Doing any form of exercise helps in increasing the secretion of human growth hormone (HGH). We all know that this hormone is responsible for our body’s development.
- Stretching: Doing stretching exercises can also improve child’s growth. The reason behind this is that the discs in the spinal column are lengthened through stretching. This works together with the growth hormone secreted by the pituitary gland. Bear in mind that this is not advisable for a baby or a toddler. This is for young adults whoa are old enough to take safety measures.
- Good Sleep: Kids should observe enough amount of sleep because during sleep a big amount of HGH is released. This factor increases height.
What Stunts Growth in Children ?
- Carbonated Drinks: Drinks like soda and coffee can stunt growth. They rob off the calcium in the bones and this is bad because calcium is needed by the bones to be healthy. Discourage them to drink these.
- Sleep Deprivation: If your children don’t get enough amount of good sleep, the production and release of HGH is affected.
- Poor Nutrition: If your children lack in calcium, iodine, magnesium, protein, and other essential vitamins and minerals, tendency is they will not reach their full height potential. As a matter of fact 90% of growing children in Africa face stunted growth due to poor nutrition.
- Illnesses: Growth is affected by illnesses and diseases because of the drugs that they take. There are some drugs that can stunt height. If your kids are ill of course their body organs do not function well.
In order for you to encourage your kids to do the things that can increase their height, do some tricks that are not so obvious to them. Monitor their weight and height regularly and make a chart to see their progress. Hope this helps.
