What is German Measles

Known as the three-day measles, rubella is considered as a milder disease compared to rubeola. This is caused by the rubella virus and its virus is responsible for any congenital defect especially when a pregnant woman becomes infected with the virus thus passing it on the unborn child. Transmission is very high and can be spread via airborne and close contact to an infected person.

Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccination has become widely available and through immunization, the incidence has been greatly reduced in babies. for adults, however, they may need a booster shot since their vaccination may have worn off thus it still poses them at high risk for acquiring the problem.

Signs and Symptoms of Rubella

Below are some of the signs and symptoms that children and even adults experience during the course of sickness:

  • Low grade fever at about 37.2 – 37.8 degree Celsius
  • Swollen lymph nodes
  • Headache
  • Body malaise
  • Runny nose
  • Pink rash which begins in the face and spreads down to the trunk lasting for 3 days

Treatment for 3-Day Measles

Since this is caused by virus, there isn’t any single cure for measles. Therefore, you will only allow it to take its course and provide home treatment to alleviate symptoms. Thus you can do the following:

  • Rest. It is important to take plenty of rest to allow your body to fight the infection.
  • Tepid sponge bath may be performed to reduce fever.
  • It is necessary that you drink plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration.
  • Pain relievers may be taken to get rid of muscle pain. Decongestants for runny nose may be given as well.

Oftentimes, the condition is mistaken for chicken pox and other diseases since they resemble the symptoms. With this, it is important to seek medical attention accordingly to help plan proper interventions on how to cure the condition.
