Monosodium glutamate (MSG) has long been used as a flavor enhancer in many Asian countries. MSG is a salt form of the glutamic acid. Apparently, this comes in a couple of other names, but in Filipino, this is widely known as vetsin. It has been a huge click in the food market; however, it faced a lot of controversies alongside aspartame since its thought to cause adverse reactions and unwanted side effects when consumed in large quantities. Some of the adverse reactions are the following:
- It can pass on the placenta and induce toxins during pregnancy
- Heart diseases
- Asthma
- Headaches
- Allergy
- Nausea
- Palpitation, tingling sensation
On the other hand, many physicians still say that the additive is relatively safe, and that these symptoms are normally temporary. Some people are afraid which is why they tend to look for monosodium glutamate prevention to be able to stop or control its effects. So, what could you do?
