Tourette syndrome is a neurological disorder that starts from childhood like between 3 and 10 years of age. It is actually a type of tic disorder and kids who have this disorder repeat involuntary movements and sounds. The movements and sounds come and go but can cause impairment in an adult. This syndrome is named after Dr. Georges Gilles de la Tourette. Males who suffer from this syndrome have bigger percentage compared to females. If you see your child repeating movements or sounds, he may have a tic but not a Tourette syndrome.

Treatment
There is no cure for this treatment. Management of its signs and symptoms include behavioral, pharmacological, and psychological therapies. Tics in children can be controlled or minimized by medication. Find a good physician that has enough knowledge and experience in treating this syndrome. However, you can try the following:
- Employ relaxation techniques like meditation, yoga, stretching, and deep breathing. This syndrome can be triggered by stress so these techniques can be of help.
- You can also try cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). This therapy is used to get rid of negative thoughts connected to random involuntary movements or tics. This can be an effective way to treat it.
- The most effective medicines are neuroleptics which block dopamine. These include Haldol, Orap, Reisperdal, Prolixin, Navane, Zyprexa, Abilify, and Geodon. Haldol and Orap are approved for treating tics, the rest have not been proven.
