Health is wealth. It’s old but true. It is only appropriate that we should take good care of it to prevent deadly diseases. Most of the time it’s really far better to prevent the occurrence of diseases than to cure them.
Kidneys are two of the most important organs in the body. They clean the blood, keep the body’s water volume at ideal levels, maintain the level of essential substances and ions in the blood, normalize blood pressure, and do other important things.
We can prevent kidney diseases like occurrence of kidney stones and infection if we are aware of the things that we should do and we should not do. We should know the things that can make them healthy and at the same time we should know the things that that can harm them.
How to prevent kidney stones
- Eat nutritious food: Cut down meat, calcium, and salt intake from your diet.
- Drink plenty of water: Drinking more than 2 ½ liters of fluid every day will decrease the risk of developing kidney stones.
- Cut down consumption of grapefruit and soda drinks. These can actually increase the risk of having kidney stones.
- Consume food items that are high in potassium: (bananas, prunes, apricots, watermelon, and strawberries) and magnesium (cashews, almonds, pumpkin seeds, brazil nuts, spinach, white and black beans) because they decrease the likelihood of kidney stones.
- Consult your doctor about taking supplements like pyridoxine and magnesium. These will reduce oxalate, a mineral salt found in kidney stones.
If kidney stones have developed already, you can dissolve them with 1 cup of concentrated lemon juice mixed with 1 quart of water. Simply drink it twice a day. But if it can’t dissolve the stones, then see your doctor. You should also pay attention to other organs like your gallbladder. You can prevent gall stones by watching the level of your cholesterol. As far as drinking water is concerned, I always tell people to drink cool distilled water. It really helps to combat and prevent future kidney stones.
