How to Know if You Have Herpes

Herpes is a very common sexually transmitted disease which is brought about by the simplex virus.  There are two types of HSV:

  • HSV type 1:  cause of herpes in the mouth or oral herpes.  This causes cold sores and blisters in the lips as a result of kissing and sharing utensils.
  • HSV type 2:  cause of genital herpes.  This can be seen around the vagina or penis as a result of having  sexual contact with an infected partner.

There is also a different virus that causes shingles.  Herpes is a very contagious disease.  Moreover, there is no cure for this STD, but with the aid of the medications outbreaks can be lessened.  How to know if you have this ?  Apparently, there are a number of things that you can look for on how to tell if you already have it.

How to Tell if You Have Herpes

Oral Herpes

The signs and symptoms of this disease in the mouth will be apparent on your lips.  Blisters will grow slowly and you will notice they are somewhat reddish rash lesion and some sort of greenish discharge.  Eventually, they will develop into larger infection and inflammation around the affected area. They will begin to peel, and crack as well and this can really be very painful. Usually these symptoms are associated with fever and this will confirm that you’ve already contracted herpes.

Genital Herpes

How can you tell if you have genital herpes? You need to inspect your genitals for sores that are red and have a yellowish discharge.  In men and in women’s genitals, cluster of papules and vesicles are also visible in the sensitive area and these are itchy and very painful to touch.  Sufferers can also experience painful urination associated with fever, swollen lymph nodes, and muscle pain.

If you already have some of these symptoms, you should see your doctor immediately to have a fully understanding regarding the stages of your condition and what measures you can take on how you can treat yourself. You should not be embarrassed because your doctor can be of best help to know what is going on with your body.
