Oftentimes, most people would complain of chest pain at some point in their lives. This can be characterized by extreme discomfort felt on the areas associated with tightness, sharp, palpitation, and difficulty breathing deeply between the neck and the abdominal area. Chest pain on the left side under the breast, what could it possibly mean? Some people fear it may be among the symptoms of a heart attack or other heart diseases, but what else could be the causes of chest pain? Here are some.
Causes of Chest Pain (Left Side Under Breast)
- Angina pectoris – when the heart does not receive enough oxygen, it can produce a feeling of tightness in the pectoral area which oftentimes radiate at the back, shoulders, and arms. This is one of the common causes of chest pain, and typically it resolves in fifteen minutes and can be relieved by rest.
- Pleurisy – or otherwise known as pleuritis. This refers to the inflammation of the lining in the lining between the lungs and the chest wall. When you breathe, cough, or sneeze, the lining in the pleura causes friction and rub against each other thus causing chest pain on the left side under the breast.
- Pericarditis – or the inflammation of the tissues surrounding the heart. However, this causes chest pain on the center part and radiates to the left.
- Costochondritis – this commonly happens in children wherein there is an inflammation of the cartilage between the ribs. Although this is usually harmless, this can bring about a left sided twinge.
- Flatulence – this happens when there is too much gas trapped on the intestine.
- Ulcers, gastritis, stress and anxiety, and shingles can bring the occurrence of chest pain from right side to left over the breast area. Basically, it can just happen even after eating.
Chest pain can happen to both men and women. One should be careful enough to see the symptoms as failure to do so may lead to fatal conditions like myocardial infarction. If you’ve been feeling intermittent or chronic chest pain, it is so much better to seek the help of your doctor to know its diagnosis. Oftentimes, pain in the pectoral area are not life-threatening and can be relieved by rest, but remember not to neglect it either. Take care of your health!
