in Making Potato Vodka
You’ll need:
- A kilogram of potatoes per liter of desired vodka
- Malt or enzymes
- A package of yeast
- Water
- Pressure cooker
- Distillation kit
- Sharp knife
- Strainer
How to Do it:
- Peel and chop the potatoes into cubes.
- Put the cubed potatoes into the pressure cooker with water which is about an inch higher to cover the potatoes. Cook until the potatoes have dissolved in water. Allow them to cool and strain them thus leaving the juice that will become your potato vodka.
- The next thing to do is to add malt or enzymes which can convert the starch found in potatoes to fermentable sugars. You can use moonshine, or gluten free barley, wheat, rye, corn, etc. since they are natural enzymes.
- After the mixture has cooled at about 80 degrees Fahrenheit, add the yeast depending on the labeling instructions. Allow it to ferment or it turns to alcohol. Generally, this should sit for atleast two weeks.
- Next up, you have to distill the potato vodka. Naturally, this is done through a distillery. However, since this one is homemade, you need to make a distillery. Do this by heating the potato juice and capturing the steam and collecting impurities from your potato juice. If you want to do it the easier way, you can buy distilling kits to help you with the distillery process.
- Finally, you can add flavor to your vodka through an array of flavorings ranging from fruits to herbs.
