How to Dress like a Hipster
posted by: Gretchen
The term hipster is a slang term that first appeared in the 1940s. It is often used to describe types of young, recently-settled urban middle class adults and older teenagers with interests in non-mainstream culture and fashion, specifically alternative music and indie rock. A hippie could also be a person who follows the latest trend of fashion. This started in 2000s.
So, you want to be one of them? Know and learn their sense of fashion. Dress up like a real hipster by trying the following tips:
- Look for ironic or vintage tees. Find a shirt with the right kind of irony. Whether you’re a man or a woman, you’ll need to do this. Find a vintage boutique or store.
- Wear skinny jeans. Most hipsters wear very tight jeans because the tighter the pants the better. They can come in any color but tend to be black. There are skinny jeans designed for men and hipster men would wear them everyday.
- Find a hoodie that is either too small or a little too large if you want to dress like a hipster. A person who knows how to dress up like a hipster has a good number of hoodies with different colors.
- Wear showy belts. Make it big because the bigger the better. Choose a colorful one to catch the eye.
- Find the right style of glasses like nerdy glasses. Choose ones with no prescription, just lenses. Choose glasses with odd shapes like square.
- For women, you can wear accessories like huge flower clips, headbands with big bows on it or anything that would draw attention to your hair or head. But this is not applicable if you are a male.
- For men, wear vintage caps or hats.
- You can wear weird sandals like those that are really hard to find. But you can also wear sneakers like Converse or Doc Martens.
In the winter, choose a retro jacket. If you want to see hipster clothing, search for Cory Kennedy, an American girl who became famous because of her fashion sense. Talk to a fashion icon or read a fashion magazine and you’ll look like Cory Kennedy. Good luck hippie!
