How to Cook Shrimp Paste
posted by: Rowena
Shrimp paste is very popular in our place, aside from the well-known sukang Iloco and bagoong, we usually have bagoong alamang paired with mangos. The main reason why I learned how to cook shrimp paste is because, I love mangos. Many times, I buy ready to eat shrimp paste and I thought it would be better if I do it on my own. Basically, I was right, isn’t it? Now I can share with you what I learned. Below are the ingredients and the steps on how to cook Shrimp Paste.
The ingredients that make your Shrimp Paste perfect should have the following:
2 cups pork, cut (small pieces)
6 tbsp. cooking oil
1 cup tomatoes, minced
5 tbsp. sugar
2 tbsp. garlic, (finely crushed)
vinegar
1 cup onion, (minced)
bottle of bagoong alamang or shrimp paste
How to cook Bagoong Alamang/ Shrimp Paste:
In a sauce pan, put oil and sauté/ fry garlic, onion and tomatoes and wait til they are cooked. Mix in pork and cook til meat is tender. Add shrimp paste, sugar and vinegar. Simmer for 10 minutes. Remove over heat and you may enjoy it.
I guess everyone would be eager to cook this for it is so simple and easy. It’s not complicated and be easily learned. There are different variations of this dish, you can have seafood/ shrimp paste, crab paste or black bean paste. But what I have taught you is the Filipino style and definitely perfect for every Filipino taste bud ( panlasang Pinoy). For me, I also have this with rice but still it’s on your own preference.
